How to rollback Windows 11 24H2 to version 23H2

If you upgraded to Windows 11 24H2 but are experiencing issues, you can revert to version 23H2 using the system’s recovery feature or a clean installation process.

If it has been less than ten days since the upgrade, you can use the “Recovery” settings to uninstall version 24H2 and restore version 23H2. However, after ten days, the system automatically deletes the previous installation files, making the recovery option unavailable. In that case, you must perform a clean installation using the Windows 11 23H2 ISO file.

The main challenge is that Microsoft no longer provides the ISO file for version 23H2. However, you can still downgrade by using the UUP third-party script to download the installation files directly from Microsoft’s servers.

Keep in mind that uninstalling the Windows 11 2024 Update may require you to reinstall some apps and could result in the loss of settings configured while using version 24H2. If you choose the clean installation method, all your files, settings, and apps will be erased. You’ll need to restore your files from a backup, reinstall your applications, and reconfigure your system.

In this guide, I will teach you the steps for rolling back to Windows 11 23H2 after upgrading to version 24H2.

Important: Regardless of the option you choose, it’s recommended to create a full backup of your computer in case something goes wrong and restore your device to a working condition. It’s important to note that the option to roll back using the Settings app should keep your files and most of your settings apps, but the clean installation option will delete everything on the computer.

Once you complete the steps, the rollback to Windows 11 23H2 from version 24H2 will be completed.

After the installation, you want to make sure to check for updates and install missing drives manually. You also want to restore your files from backup and reinstall your applications.

Although you can revert to the previous version of Windows 11, you should never skip a new release entirely because, eventually, your current setup will stop being supported, making your device vulnerable to attacks and compatibility problems. In the case of Windows 11 23H2, this version is expected to reach the end of support on November 11, 2025, and after this day, Microsoft will stop rolling out security and maintenance updates.

Once you know that version 24H2 is more stable, and there are no significant known issues, you should proceed with the upgrade to maintain your computer’s support.

Why are you rolling back to Windows 11 23H2? What option did you use? Let me know in the comments.
